Anthony

Lim

Anthony Lim is a Chinese/Malaysian photographer born and based in the UK. Strongly inspired by the works of Francesca Woodman and Rinko Kawauchi, he explores human emotion through the portrayal of the mundane. Anthony has a strong interest in identity and magnifying the unseen in everyday life, often taking images with themes of nostalgia. His aesthetic can be seen as peaceful, invoking a sense of calm yet always accompanied with underlying tones of tragedy.

Memento is a series of cyanotypes depicting portraits of statues taken at the National Portrait Gallery. The flooded tones of blue mixes beautifully with the solitude of the statues, depicting a tragic yet magnificent memory of the past. His work comments on the given immortality of the subjects once they become a form of art. The loneliness of the inanimate objects shines through in the series and creates contrast with their importance in our history and culture.
