In my current work in the Storytelling unit, I have been exploring the way in which my ideas around styling can influence my photography in a studio set up while taking into consideration some of my model’s preferences, as I wanted her to have freedom of expression and for this to be reflected within my work, while also choosing styling aspects that would harmonise effectively with the feminine, brightly coloured and fantasy type theme that I was aiming to create.

My work was inspired by a selection of photographers and fashion editorials that I came across when carrying out research, such as the Guilty Pleasure editorial, shot by Jessica Budnick and styled by Megan Wilde, as the way that the motion and crisp details were captured using an effective colour scheme really moved me to create work using some similar aspects. I applied the nails on my model, creating a detailed and intricate design while taking into account my model’s choices of colour, as I wanted the hands to be a large aspect of my photo shoot in order to capture detailed close up shots of the motion of my model’s actions.

Upon reflection of my work, I feel that a more interesting studio set up may have enhanced the aesthetic appearance of my shoot, for example using different coloured background to harmonise with the choice of fashion, or perhaps more props such as a table for my model to sit at and to place other props on top of, creating a different theme with regards to the atmosphere such as making it appear to be a homely environment. I do however feel that my shoot was successful in the way that I planned for the hands and nails to be a main aspect within my work, telling a story through the colour scheme and movement.
